A. Navy Pier
1. In 1909, Daniel Burnham proposed a
modernized of harbor, originally it was called Municipal Pier. It is located on
Michigan Avenue with Illinois Street.
2. In 1916, Navy Pier was opened to public. In its first decade was successfully attracting
both, visitors and ship. It was temporarily closed during World War II when the
navy trained more than 60.000 troops on site.
To educate returning veterans and the University of Illinois converted
the pier to a campus.
3. In 1920, Navy Pier’s success started
to decline, because the introduction of cars and the opening of movie theaters.
4. In spite of Navy Pair’s future was
uncertain, in 1990 was renovated and nowadays, it has different interesting
places. For example:
a. The famous Ferry Wheel.
b. A high musical carousel with different
hand-painted animals.
c. An Auditorium known as the Hall with
a Grand Ballroom.
d. IMAX.
e. Shakespeare theaters.

Stages.
g. Exhibition halls.
